Huckabee first was elected lieutenant governor in a 1993 special election and was elected to a full four-year term in 1994. He was only the fourth Republican to be elected to statewide office since Reconstruction.

A significant part of his early adult life was spent as a pastor and denominational leader. He became the youngest president ever of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, the largest denomination in Arkansas. Huckabee led rapidly growing congregations in Pine Bluff and Texarkana. He said those experiences gave him a deep sense of the problems faced by individuals and families.

Huckabee's efforts to improve his own health have received national attention. Diagnosed with Type II diabetes in 2003, he lost 110 pounds. Barely two years later, he had completed four marathons: The 2005 and 2006 Little Rock Marathons, the Marine Corps Marathon and the ING New York City Marathon. As a result of his accomplishments, The Road Runners Club of America named him its 'Southern Region Runner of the Year' and USA Track & Field has named him their 'Athlete of the Week' for the country.

Continuing to call for a national emphasis on living a healthy lifestyle, Huckabee completed his fourth book, "Quit Digging Your Grave With A Knife and Fork." This 12-stop program is a no-nonsense approach to managing one's health through lifestyle change rather than a simple diet and exercise plan.

Huckabee, 53, is an avid musician and is bass player in his rock-n-roll band, Capitol Offense, which has opened for artists such as Willie Nelson and the Charlie Daniels Band, and has played the House of Blues in New Orleans, the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, CO and for two presidential inauguration balls. He is featured each week in the musical segment of his Fox show with the Fox house band, "The Little Rockers.”

As Republicans campaign against Democrat incumbents nationwide, I hope they will add the following list of reasons to help them make their case to voters.

TARP or as I like to call it the Congressional Relief Action Program - The money for TARP was so urgent that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and company didn’t add any transparency to the process and now we don’t know where much of the money went.

First Stimulus Bill - It stimulated spending in Democrat Congressional districts and created almost no new jobs.

Auto Bailout - Another bailout and another expansion of government.

ACORN – This corrupt organization was a favorite of House and Senate Democrats and well funded by their congressional patrons. Voters will remember.

Obama Czars – Special advisors to the President, circumventing the traditional Congressional confirmation process. The Obama administration’s widespread and deliberate use of “Czars” is a misuse of power and needs to be reined in.

CAP and TAX – Another massive tax increase on American families and small businesses.

Ben Nelson’s Payoff – Ben Nelson sold his health care vote to Harry Reid for $300+ million in lower taxes for Nebraska.

The $12 Trillion+ National Debt – Democrats in Congress spending money they don’t have. Mortgaging our children’s future.

Nationwide Unemployment rate at 10% - The Democrats are spending money like it’s going out of style and yet they are ignoring policies that would create new jobs.

The Government Takeover of Health Care - If the bill that comes out of Congress is signed into law, it will amount to a massive government expansion into our daily lives. It is the number one reason why Democrats should be defeated.

The Untold Story of the New Maps Tax

The new Maps Tax is a tax by the rich OKC Elite on the working people who make this city run. The Elite plan to build their Downtown Disneyland on the backs of the taxpayers. The Elite certainly don't want to pay the same proportion of their income that they want to force on everyone else. They're also not talking about the new taxes that will be forced on us to build a new $400 million County Jail. (More below on the jail.)

MAPS 3, Broken Arrow, Newcastle - Oklahoma Elections on Dec. 8, 2009

TUESDAY’S 3 MOST IMPORTANT ELECTIONS

OKLAHOMA CITY - The polls will be open for anyone living in the city
limits of OKC to vote to extend one penny of the sales tax over the
next 7 years and 9 months for the MAPS 3 projects or see a significant
sales tax reduction. If the sales tax is reduced, the people and their
families can spend that money however they see fit rather than putting
it into the hands of city officials.

In the special e-mail which went out last Thursday morning, I tried to
just evaluate the projects and the lack of operational and maintenance
funds to keep them operational. I didn’t want to bring in the issues
with the police and fire unions opposing the projects because the
supporters of MAPS 3 have rather successfully “demonized” our police
and firefighters as simply being union thugs seeking leverage over the
city in contract negotiations. However, I want to address some of
those issues at this time.

While I don’t know that much about the issues regarding the firemen,
we did have the President of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) speak
at OCPAC and I have a good grasp on their issue. First, you must
understand, the police have not asked for raises for any of their
officers, as they recognize the down economy.

They have been asking for additional officers for some time now. I
believe there are only 26 more officers on the force now than in 1982,
yet the city has increased in population from about 450,000 in 1982 to
today’s 550,000. Population increases put more strain on law
enforcement. Since 1982, with the rise in gang activity, several
officers have been pulled off the streets and assigned to a gang
activity task force. In addition, with the development of brick town
another large number of officers have been pulled off the streets and
assigned to that small area of OKC. If MAPS 3 passes, another large
number of officers will have to be assigned to the new park to keep it
from becoming crime infested, filled with the vagrant winos and drug
dealers. That will put even more pressure on police personnel.

The result is that fewer officers patrol the streets today and the
serious emergency response time has now dropped to over 10 minutes. An
outside entity was recently commissioned by the city which found we
were 200 officers short for a city of our size. I personally don’t
believe OKC needs another 200 officers, but we may need at least an
additional 60 to 80 officers. Of course that would require more
money.

I believe the polling numbers are looking bad for the proponents of
MAPS 3, and as such they offered that the “special use tax” expected
to be generated by MAPS 3 could be used to increase support for public
safety. Traditionally, the use tax should be used for operational
expenses and maintenance expenses for the projects. The use taxes
won’t generate enough to expand public safety, and if used for such it
will cause even less funds to be available for maintenance and
operational expenses for the new convention center, senior wellness
centers, light rail system and etc.

Last Friday, the firefighter local president was on Mark Shannon’s
radio talk show and asked a very pertinent question. He suggested, if
the first MAPS was such a great economic engine, why has there not
been enough money to keep the level of police and firefighters up with
the growth of the city? Great question and let me suggest the reason
is that the city fathers frequently miss use tax receipts for improper
functions of city government as well as grant sweetheart deals for
their buddies, all in the name of economic development. The result is,
an insufficient amount of funds are available for the vital functions
of city government. Please let me explain.

In 2001 I was the morning host on a talk show and was suggesting that
all corporate welfare and redistribution of wealth in the name of
“economic development” was immoral and an inferior way to obtain a
vibrant economy. I still stand by that assumption today. The real
estate developer John Henry III twice asked me to address the OKC city
council about the deal the city was negotiating with the Bass Pro
Stores. I believe you are only allowed 3 minutes when you speak before
the council, so it must be concise and to the point.

The second time I addressed the council, which was the meeting they
decided to enter into the sweetheart deal with Bass Pro, I said
something like this: I believe it is only fair that the citizens of
OKC know that the way you have structured this deal, that for at least
the next 20 years, none of the sales taxes generated by Bass Pro and
none of the ancillary (sales taxes in the surrounding area) sales
taxes will be available to be used for vital city functions such as
police, fire, water, sewer, streets, parks and etc.. Those sales taxes
must be used to repay the loan to build the Bass Pro store (Bass Pro
was obligated to pay $825,000 per year on a $19 million dollar loan at
8% for 20 years). At that rate it takes 23 plus years just to pay back
the principle and that doesn’t include interest. The city was
subsidizing the loan with sales tax dollars for the parent company in
which at that time the Gaylord family had a 19% interest. In my
opinion, at that time I believe then Mayor Kirk Humphrey was little
more than the water boy of the Godfather, Mr. Gaylord. Then Councilmen
Larry McAtee and Mick Cornett went right along with the project.

The next deal of significance was the remodeling of the Skirvin Hotel.
Part of the financing to repay bonded indebtedness was the creation of
a TIF (Tax Increment Financing) district. Meaning the property taxes
generated by the remodeled Skirvin wouldn’t be going to the county and
the sales taxes wouldn’t be going to the city, again sales taxes
needed to be used for vital city functions.

The next drain away for city revenues came when the Hornets
temporarily re-located to OKC. I believe at the request of some of the
same powerful corporations and people backing MAPS 3, the state
legislature passed a law exempting the tickets for professional
sporting events from being subject to sales taxes (previously we did
pay sales taxes on these tickets). Most individuals paying 20 to 50
dollars for a ticket to see a NBA game are not going to decide not to
purchase that ticket because of another 2 to 4 dollars in sales tax
costs. However, corporations purchasing hundreds of season tickets
didn’t want to pay those sales tax costs. Therefore we have another
source of sales tax dollars no longer available for city use.

As another point of interest, when the citizens decided to extend the
MAPS 2 tax for 15 months to up-grade the Ford Center and build a new
practice facility, everyone spending money in OKC is paying for those
improvements, except the people attending the games. They are exempt
for paying for the up-grades when they purchase their tickets. In
addition, the city allowed the owners of the Thunder to have their way
in such a sweetheart deal regarding the Ford Center and Practice
Facility. The lease was so low on the practice facility that is would
take over 100 years just to re-coup the cost of the facility (the
estimated cost to build the facility is less, so I don‘t have accurate
figures). In addition, while waiting on the new corporate offices to
be built inside the Ford Arena, the city paid for the class 1 office
space in one of the office building in downtown rather than the team
paying for their own office space. That money used to pay for the
Thunder’s office space didn’t go for the vital functions of city
government. Are you getting the picture of what I mean when I talk
about sweetheart deals for the good old boys.

The city has been so confident that the citizens will pass MAPS 3 that
they have already been buying properties in the proposed area of the
park. I don’t know where they got that money, but it isn’t being used
for public safety. Just another example of the mind set of the central
planners who control the city, to lure in a retail shopping center to
be located at I-40 and Council Road, the city has promised sales tax
rebates to the developers for a certain number of years. Do you think
those retailers will have an advantage over other retailers in the
city? These actions are immoral.

The bottom line is this. The first MAPS did generate new revenues, but
those revenues are ALWAYS insufficient to keep up with the insatiable
appetite of city leaders to give revenue away in the name of economic
development. Thus, the new revenues aren’t sufficient to provide for
the growing infrastructure costs and public safety demands for a
growing city. If MAPS 3 passes the temptations for supporting ever
more sweetheart deals in the name of economic development will abound.
The people in most areas of the city will never see their fair share
of the newly created revenues to be spent on infrastructure or public
safety expenses in their areas.

BROKEN ARROW - The Broken Arrow school board wants to saddle the
taxpayers with an additional $295 million in property tax debt. $10
million are for new school buses and are on a separate issue. I might
support that part of the issue, as long as they were purchasing the
buses, not leasing them, and as long as they operated on compressed
natural gas (CNG). I don’t know the what is being proposed, but the
fuel cost savings from buses operating on CNG would go a long way
toward paying for the buses.

Much of the rest of the costs are associated with building a large
number of gyms and according to our good friends at Americans For
Prosperity (AFP), the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce is to receive
$5.9 dollars from these property taxes. That would be a complete
misuse of taxpayer dollars, though I am not surprised by the effort as
greedy organizations are always trying to figure out way to get their
hands on tax payer dollars. To our Broken Arrow friends and members I
urge you to vote no and make the school board be more accountable for
properly funding needs in the district. Property taxes are the most
regressive tax known to man. They are totally insensitive to your
personal prosperity and they will cause you to lose your property if
you don’t pay them.

NEWCASTLE SCHOOLS - Proposition 2 is for $1 million for new buses.
However, proposition 1 is for $49.5 million which is huge for a small
to medium size school district like Newcastle. Much of that will go
for wasted efforts like an early childhood nanny state baby sitting
center, and then a lot of extras like a field house, wellness center,
up-grading sports facilities. These are things which for which people
should raise money through donations or through the sale of
concessions at sporting events. There may be some valid needs here,
but they should be on a separate and much smaller school bond.

Polls are showing that the American people are far from sold on Obama’s new 1.2 Trillion dollar health care plan. The public has opposed the health care plan since details emerged last July although in new polling by Quinnipiac University, it appears that opposition is strengthening.

QUESTION: Do you approve or disapprove of this health care reform plan?

Favor: 35%
Oppose: 51%

From November 9 – 16, Quinnipiac University surveyed 2,518 registered voters nationwide with a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points.

This Tuesday voters will head to the polls and cast votes for three very important candidates: Bob McDonnell (candidate for Virginia Governor) and David Harmer and Doug Hoffman candidates for Congress in California and New York. We need to help get each of these fine men elected.

We are past the point where a donation to their campaign will matter that much, what we need now is to reach as many voters as possible within the next 36 hours and let them know Americans are focused on helping elect elect Bob McDonnell, David Harmer and Doug Hoffman.

Today I am emailing to ask if you will take a moment now to make phone calls to voters. We have set up phone banks for Bob McDonnell and David Harmer and you can begin calling voters immediately. Tomorrow we will launch a phone bank for Doug Hoffman. Even if you can only make a call or two, you will help make a positive difference in the final hours before votes are cast on Tuesday.

Although this blog normally points to what others have to say about the issues of the day, occasionally one of us will opine or simply ask questions that the reading public is welcome to help us discover accurate answers for.

"tentatively scheduled a trial for Jan. 26, 2010, for a case that challenges Barack Obama's eligibility to be president based on questions over his qualifications under the requirements of the U.S. Constitution."

which would possibly,

"... be the first time the merits of the dispute have been argued in open court".

Now, for this blog editor's combination of opine and questioning:

While I don't take just a whole lot of comfort in knowing that Joseph Biden and Nancy Pelosi are next in line behind Barry Soetoro, I do just believe that the only proper option for certain individuals to take would be to attempt to discover whether the US Constitution's requirement for Presidents to have natural born citizenship was followed or subverted.

Just as a nurse, by law (and by common sense), should report to authorities if she even suspects the possibility of child abuse, a thorough show of concern should be expected from oppositional candidates, the Secretary of Defense (They are sworn to defend the US Constitution and follow the orders of the Commander-In-Chief), the head of the Federal Elections Commission, and the Chief Justice of the United States, if they have any reason to suspect a possible subversion of the US Constitution by a Presidential Candidate or a U.S. President.

No one has yet answered the question, as far as I know, "Who is the controlling legal authority that is responsible for verifying that this part of the US Constitution is faithfully held up?" Who is it? The Supreme Court? The Chair of the FEC? Congress? Who? Let's remember that the United States is not to be ruled over by a king. This country is to be run by the rule of law and no one (no leader or candidate) is to be held above the law.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- In a new video he recorded to urge pro-life advocates to oppose the health care bill and its abortion funding provisions, former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee calls President Barack Obama the most pro-abortion president in American history.

Huckabee, who remains one of the top three GOP prospects for 2012, said Obama is the “most pro-abortion president in U.S. history.”

“There is almost no person I can think of in an elected position who has had a more radical view of liberalized abortion policies than Barack Obama,” Huckabee added.

“His position on this issue is far beyond most of the people in his own party. Most of the Democrats don't support partial-birth abortion, he does," Huckabee explained. "Most Democrats don't support late-term abortion, he does."

The new video, called "Health Care Reform = Elective Abortions" appears on Huckabee's political action committee’s web site.

Huckabee urged Americans to oppose the government-run health care bills pending in Congress because they have provisions “that guarantee that part of what will be covered will be elective abortions.”

“This is troubling to me,” Huckabee said. “I don't want my tax dollars paying for the taking of the life of an unborn and perfectly innocent human being. That’s exactly what'll happen.”

Huckabee, who was the governor of Arkansas and re-elected by that state to the position, also went after his former nemesis and likely 2012 opponent, Mitt Romney, saying that the health care plan Romney promoted and approved in Massachusetts also paid for abortions.

“Massachusetts is a great picture of what will happen nationally,” Huckabee says. “The Massachusetts model has been a total disaster. It’s been a disaster from a financial standpoint, [and is] about to bankrupt that state.”

“It gives people the opportunity to have an abortion for a $50 co-pay,” he says. “So that’s all that a human life is worth now in Massachusetts - $50.”

Huckabee says it could be worse under the Obama plan Congress is considering.

“The federal government may pick up the entire cost of an elective abortion. Every principled pro-life person in this country ought to be in arms," he says.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, showing up at Oklahoma Christian University in borrowed cowboy boots, used part of his visit Sunday to the Sooner State to raise money for Republican state and congressional candidates.
Huckabee, leadoff speaker for the I Debate camp taking place this week at Oklahoma Christian, left a couple hours later for a fundraiser for his political action committee, HuckPAC, at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Hosts included U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Tulsa, former Gov. Frank Keating, Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett and former state Sen. Scott Pruitt, who is a managing partner of the Oklahoma City RedHawks.
Huckabee, who has daily radio commentaries on the ABC radio network and a weekend show on the Fox cable network, has not announced his 2012 political plans.
His political action committee raises money for volunteers and activities in state races this year and in 2010. He expects the committee to provide assistance in Oklahoma’s 2010 gubernatorial race.
“Our PAC is a little different; rather than just kind of become a money stop, our primary focus is to activate volunteers,” he said in an interview before speaking to the high school students at Oklahoma Christian. “We’re helping to recruit candidates, help train them, supply volunteers to their campaign.
“The goal is to get people activated in their local communities and states to operate everything from phone banks to knocking on doors,” said Huckabee, who finished second in the 2008 Republican presidential primary in Oklahoma and is a frontrunner in the 2012 GOP presidential sweepstakes.
Huckabee said he learned during his presidential campaign is critically important, but volunteers and grass-roots efforts “are amazingly valuable.”
Support for GOP candidates usually is provided after the primaries are over, he said.
Huckabee arrived in Oklahoma from New York, where he hosts his cable TV show, but his checked-in luggage was sent on to Minneapolis. He had dressed casually for his flight, wearing jeans and running shoes.
Among the items in the missing luggage was his pair of dress shoes. His daughter’s boyfriend, he said, lent him his pair of tan cowboy boots to wear to Oklahoma Christian. Minutes before he was scheduled to speak to the students, his luggage was delivered on campus and he slipped on his black dress shoes.

Dear Mr. Burns,

I listened with great interest to your show tonight between 9:00 and 10:00 pm on the topic of selective reduction. If only I had been able to call in and offer my two cents.

If you find that my opinion offered here merits consideration, then please share it with your audience at your next opportunity.

My wife and I brought children into this world with the assistance of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Before doing so, we looked deeply into the issues attached to IVF, established our boundaries, the proceeded deliberately. Today we have four beautiful children: three girls and one boy.

The cardinal principle from which we operated is a moral one: every embryo created should be given the best possible chance at continuing its natural life cycle, i.e. being implanted, brought to term, and delivered to realize its potential. Since we believe that one should not create persons with intention to destroy them (as in selective reduction), we precluded this concern by fertilizing eggs conservatively, and only two embryos at a time were implanted in their mother’s womb. None were “reduced,” thrown away, or otherwise destroyed. When one rolls the dice conservatively, one risks getting nothing for the $16,000 they paid for an IVF cycle. There is a cost to living within boundaries, but, more often than not, a higher cost to living without them.

I must interject here regarding the term “created.” Actually, neither we nor science created anything. Simplified, IVF is just a facilitation of the meeting of the natural ingredients after which the resulting new lives are placed in their natural environment until transition to the next stage of their life cycle. For science truly to create an embryo, scientists would construct the organelles and other sub-cellular structures from scratch, then assemble them into a complete respirating and functioning embryo. Perhaps it is more correct to say that science “facilitates” what usually happens naturally.

The point I kept hearing you make more than any other during the hour on this topic was this: if we’re okay with employing science to “create” life, then shouldn’t we also be okay with employing science to extinguish that same life? (I hope I repeated your thought accurately enough.)

To test your assertion, let me then offer a scenario and a question. Suppose a woman brings sextuplets to term whose genesis had been facilitated by IVF. That is, without the intervention of science, those six children would not exist. Two years go by, and the woman realizes that she has not the means to care for all six of the children, to provide adequate nourishment and otherwise any foreseeable “quality of life” for all of them. Since science helped to bring these children into the world, would you then argue that the woman should be offered a legally-protected prerogative to employ science toward the termination of the lives of any of her toddlers? Why not? …because a toddler is a person, but the unborn is…..is what?

What is the unborn?

Is the unborn a person?

This then is the crux of the controversial life issues, of the debate over selective reduction, of the debate over abortion.

Given any scenario, given any quandary, if you wouldn’t advocate taking the life of a toddler, then why would you advocate taking the life of the unborn?

It always comes down to this one question: Is the unborn a person?

We agree that at some point along the life cycle of a human, that human becomes a person. Is it at the very beginning? Is it at the end of the first trimester? Is it at birth? Is it, as Peter Singer asserts, when a human becomes aware of her desire to survive (between two and three years old)?

It seems to me that the onus is on the advocate of selective reduction (or abortion) to discover honestly when a human becomes person, and then not to breach a zone of moral safety within which that threshold exists. Otherwise, he becomes guilty of, or at least complicit in, the taking of lives of innocent persons.

Regarding selective reduction, discussion of whether personhood is achieved at conception isn’t really necessary because that’s not when selective reduction is performed. No, selective reduction is often performed at twelve weeks gestation, and is almost always performed between ten and twelve weeks gestation. At this stage, the little person has fingers and toes, and its heart has been pumping since the seventeenth day after conception. Take a look at any human embryology text; what I’m saying is true.

Yes, I said “person.”

Neither size, level of development, environment, nor degree of dependency eliminates or precludes personhood.

My daughters are not non-persons because they are smaller than me.

My son is not a non-person by virtue of being less developed than me.

There is nowhere I can go where I become a non-person by virtue of being in that place.

Dependency upon an insulin pump does not cause one to be a non-person. My young children are dependent upon me or another adult for their survival (remove their caretaker, and see whether they last more than a week), but I doubt you would argue that they are non-persons.

Therefore, I hold that the unborn is a person and that every embryo created should be given the best possible chance at continuing its natural life cycle. Certainly, no human life should be created if the intention from the outset is to destroy it.

One of those dissidents is Norma McCorvey, the plaintiff in Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion in all 50 states in 1973. McCorvey, a born-again Christian who runs Roe No More Ministry in Dallas, flew to South Bend, Ind., on Friday.
"I'm coming because I want to show Mr. Obama that I'm not in favor his pro-abortion stance," McCorvey told FOXNews.com prior to boarding a connecting flight in Cincinnati, Ohio. "I'm a peaceful protester, but if they come and take me away, they'll just come and take me away."
McCorvey said she's especially excited for a meditation to be held by the Rev. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, during Obama's commencement address and the candlelit vigil led by Rev. John D'Arcy, bishop of the Fort Wayne-South Bend diocese who will not attend Sunday's graduation, in protest of the president.
"Hopefully we can convince Mr. Obama that he should be standing on the right side, and that's the side for life," she said. "I'm pro-life now, I'm not afraid."
Asked what she'd say to President Obama if given the opportunity, McCorvey replied, "I can't talk like that anymore. I'm a Christian."

Human Cloning Ban Clears House

OKLAHOMA CITY – Legislation to ban human cloning easily cleared the Oklahoma House of Representatives today.

“This is an important measure that protects research but doesn’t compromise our morals,” said House Speaker Chris Benge , R-Tulsa.

“The idea that we would allow the creation of human embryos through cloning crosses an ethical line and violates our most basic values,” said state Rep. Pam Peterson , R-Tulsa.

House Bill 1114, by Peterson, makes it illegal “for any person or entity, public or private, to perform or attempt to perform human cloning; participate in an attempt to perform human cloning; ship, transfer, or receive the product of human cloning for any purpose;: and “import the product of human cloning for any purpose.”

The legislation would not restrict scientific research involving the use of nuclear transfer or other cloning techniques to produce molecules, DNA, cells, tissues, organs, plants, or animals.

“This legislation is carefully crafted to prevent cloning to create human lives while still allowing other forms of research,” Peterson said. “This is a common-sense measure that has received strong bipartisan support.”

House Bill 1114 passed the Oklahoma House of Representatives on an 83-0 vote today. The Senate quickly did the same and the measure now goes to Gov. Brad Henry for his signature.

Lamb, Senate Endorse Sanctity of Life

Oklahoma City—The Oklahoma State Senate approved two pro-life measures by Majority Floor Leader Todd Lamb on Friday , advancing both to the Governor’s desk.

House Bill 1595 prohibits a person from performing an abortion solely because of the sex of the child and creates the Statistical Reporting of Abortions Act, which requires physicians who perform abortions to report certain information to the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH). This legislation passed the Senate with a 35-9 vote.

House Bill 1114 prohibits human cloning in Oklahoma and makes it a misdemeanor to perform or attempt to perform human cloning. This piece of pro-life legislation passed the Senate unanimously.

Each bill received overwhelming bipartisan support from both chambers, which Lamb applauds saying the Legislature is standing up for Oklahoma values.

“ Oklahoma families across our state value the sanctity of life and chose to elect those who share this sacred ideal,” said Lamb. “Twenty-three countries throughout the world have already banned attempts to clone humans, and Oklahoma is the sixth state in our nation to ban human cloning. Life is too often taken for granted, and the Legislature has sent a message today that says we stand up for life and the protection of the unborn.”

Washington, 30 April (WashingtonTV)—Presidential candidate and National Trust Party chairman, Mehdi Karoubi, on Thursday blasted an opinion column published yesterday in Iran’s hardline Kayhan newspaper, which accused him of being a mouthpiece for Israel, after he called for an end to the execution of minors accused of serious crimes, Saham news website reports.

“These are the howls of the new mafia which I hear from the mouth of Kayhan,” Karoubi said in response to Kayhan’s accusation in its Goft-o-Shenoud [gossip] column, that he was repeating “gibberish” put in his mouth by the “foot soldiers of the Zionist regime [Israel].”

In a note published on Monday, Kayhan asked, which minor has been sent to the death squad in our country, causing Mr. Karoubi, “the Sheikh of reforms”, to cry “oh executions”?

In another piece in Kayhan’s opinion column, which many Iranian media analysts believe is written by the paper’s editor, Hossein Shariatmadari, Karoubi is said to be an illiterate person.

Reacting to Kayhan, Saham news – the official news website of the National Trust Party – reports that Karoubi viewed Shariatmadari’s insults as directed toward scholars of Islam and Islamic jurisprudence, who, following the innovative [Persian: ijtihadi = independent interpretation and reasoning based on sacred text scholarly] vision of the imam [Ayatollah Khomeini] and taking into account issues of time and place, have called for commuting [death] sentences] against minors.

First among these Islamic scholars is Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi-Shahroudi, Iran’s Judiciary chief, Karroubi said, adding that Shariatmadari “says everyone is illiterate. These are the howls of the new mafia, which I hear from the mouth of Kayhan. Of course, we hope that someday the market of one and all inquisitors will be shut, but of course, according to these people, talk of pardoning convicts is gibberish,” he said.

Republican gubernatorial prospect Bob Vander Plaats is scheduled to appear on Fox News Channel’s Mike Huckabee show Sunday to discuss Iowa’s same-sex marriage issue.

Vander Plaats of Sioux City is the only GOP prospect to have formed an organization to allow him to raise money and hire staff as he prepares to launch a campaign this summer.

In the meantime, he has been out-front on the marriage issue, calling for the impeachment of the Iowa Supreme Court and asking Gov. Chet Culver, a Democrat, to stay the enactment of the court’s ruling allowing gay marriage this month.

Vander Plaats has cited his relationship with Huckabee as an asset to what would be his third gubernatorial campaign. Vander Plaats endorsed Huckabee’s 2008 presidential bid before Huckabee went on to win Iowa’s lead-off nominating caucuses last year.

Huckabee’s television show on Fox airs at 7 p.m. CDT on Saturday, and 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. CDT Sunday.

LEANERS or LEADERS

On this HuckPAC National Volunteer Day, I'm encouraged as I read the many blog messages from other HuckPAC Volunteers from around the nation, as they talk about what drew them to support HuckPAC.

For me, years of waiting for incremental change to take place with no one seeming to take the conservative bull by the horns has been very frustrating. Most people AT LEAST know that it's completely wrong for our nation's written laws to allow for the killing of human children at late stages of pregnancy for the sake of, "choice", of the mother of the child; however our laws still reflect this sad level of lack of concern for those who cannot be heard or easily seen. Virtually everyone knows that our 67,500 page tax code is completely absurd. What a waste of resources just trying to comply with this behemoth? No one on Earth has ever read the entire thing or fully understands it. We all know that it was created by well-paid, DC lobbyist, getting loopholes so that their clients can enjoy UNFAIR advantages over their competitors. It's obviously time to get rid of it for something that is FAIR!

I'm not a genius and that's exactly what, for years, has made me so frustrated, because you don't HAVE to be a genius to see these things. So, why has it gone on for so long? In a word, PANDERING. For decades, we conservatives have listened to politicians tell us that they are pro-life and anti-overtaxing-for-wasteful-spending, but too many times they either don't get elected, or worse, get elected and don't keep their promises. They pander to us during the campaigns and govern otherwise. They try to ride the fence so that they won't draw too much ire and fire from the liberal media and special interest groups. They're afraid of being labeled as dogmatic, but one can afford to be dogmatic when they are correct.

Too many have been LEANING in our direction. We don't need any more LEANERS. Gov. Huckabee has broken that mold by being a LEADER.

Let's take our bulls by the horns! Now that we have a base to work from (HuckPAC), we can accomplish the task of getting our nation back on track. Gov. Huckabee has already laid the foundation for this with his creation of HuckPAC. Amongst many other things, he stood up boldly for the Human Life Amendment and the FairTax. He didn't just LEAN in our direction; he did LEAD us!

Let's plan our work together and work our plan together. The light can be seen at the end of this liberal tunnel. May the National Right To Life Committee never again endorse a candidate who does not support the Human Life Amendment over one who does! May there be too many ACTIVE members of HuckPAC in their ears, at every level, absolutely forbidding it! May the FairTax be clearly explained to enough neighbors to get our nation's fiscal sanity back before it's too late! May we grow in numbers and activity enough to win an astounding number of campaigns. We can do it and for the love of our nation, we should!

A recent example of success, was seen at our Oklahoma State Republican Party Convention, held in Oklahoma City, just a couple of weeks ago. In just ONE DAY, the number of our Team Huck Volunteers DOUBLED as 124 people signed up, not to mention that many politicians made clear to us that receiving the official endorsement of HuckPAC is at the top of their priorities. Thank you to the many volunteers who made the trip from all over the state and helped work the booth. (If only we had more than 2 clipboards, we could have signed up several more!)

Thank you Gov. Huckabee for taking the bull by the horns, by holding up the standard, by not just LEANING, but actually LEADING!

Attorney General’s Memo Ordering County Recorders to Issue Licenses Lacks Constitutional Authority

DES MOINES - Releasing the text of an executive order that would stay same-sex marriages and withstand a legal challenge, Bob Vander Plaats today called on Gov. Chet Culver to sign the order before county recorders are expected to issue marriage licenses on Monday.

"The governor’s acquiescence to a court opinion is tantamount to neglecting his constitutional responsibilities," Vander Plaats said at a Statehouse news conference. "Because he hasn’t been willing to do his job, we’ve done it for him. I have worked with a team of attorneys who understand the Iowa Constitution and the end product is an executive order that defends our constitution and defends the will of the people. It gives Governor Culver the opportunity to exercise the authority that only he has but his so far given away to the courts and Attorney General Tom Miller."

Vander Plaats noted that Miller’s April 8 memo directing county recorders to adhere to the Iowa Supreme Court’s April 3 opinion and issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples is "without constitutional basis."

"On April 15th, 1998 Governor Terry Branstad signed House File 382 into law after it passed the General Assembly as prescribed by law. According to the constitution, this is the only method by which laws and statutes in Iowa can be created. The constitution does not grant the Supreme Court the power to write, amend or strike legislative law. Its opinion, to secure justice for the parties, should have been to refer the matter back to the Iowa General Assembly with the opinion that its members should either rewrite the law or bring it before a vote of the people of Iowa as a constitutional amendment to remedy the issue."

Vander Plaats continued, "Iowa’s 99 county recorders are caught between a rock and a hard place. They’re being threatened with legal action from our state attorney general if they don’t comply with a court opinion but that opinion does not carry constitutional weight to change our marriage laws. Governor Culver has a responsibility to take that burden off Iowa’s county recorders and issue a stay on same-sex marriages in Iowa until this matter can be resolved by the only two authorities in the state legally qualified to resolve it: The General Assembly or the people of Iowa."

Let Governor Culver know that you want him to sign the Executive Order putting a stay on the Supreme Court's ruling allowing the legislature time to do their job and let the people vote.

"The tea parties are mostly an honest spontaneous effort by ordinary people from all over the political spectrum to express their outrage at government hubris from absurd spending, corporate bailouts, etc.," former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee told ABC News in an email today, asked for a comment about today's protests.

But, we also wanted to know, what did Huckabee think about the fact that many of these parties were being organized by FreedomWorks, the conservative group run by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas?

During the GOP primaries, Armey attacked Huckabee for not embracing the charge of organizations such as The Club for Growth, which repeatedly attacked Huckabee.

Huckabee, Armey wrote in January 2008, "has worked to make his small-minded populism a credit by pitting his socially conservative supporters against the GOP’s business wing. One of his favorite lines is that he represents the interests of 'Main Street, not Wall Street.' But this assumes that the interests of the two are not in alignment, that somehow, one group can only gain at the expense of the other - never mind that the jobs and livelihoods of America’s workers and small towns are tied inexorably with the larger economy. It’s a dark form of class warfare shrewdly masked by his sunny chatter. ...Allowing Mike Huckabee to become the face of conservatism would trade unity and principle for an ill-advised romance with a flighty, flaky new brand of politics."

Now, of course, Armey and FreedomWorks are rallying the tea party protests around the country that are protesting big government, Wall Street bailouts, higher taxes and President Obama's housing plan.

"As for Armey," Huckabee writes when I ask him to weigh in, "he and about 75% of the so-called 'conservatives' owe me a big apology. They misrepresented my record, took my statements totally out of context, and accused me of economic liberalism, which is utter nonsense. My campaign upset their orderly apple cart, because it really was run by grass-roots conservatives and small business owners and not those who as it turned out were wholly owned subsidiaries of recklessly run corporations and lobbyists.”

Huckabee says Armey and his cohorts "never listened to what I was saying, but just spoke out to protect their pals who were funding their faces—there’s a word for people who get to paid to show love, but polite people don’t use it openly. I’ve found it amazing to watch the huffy puffy types who skinned me alive during the campaign jump out and support TARP, and then change their tune when Obama and the Dems proposed stimulus. Let the record note, that I opposed TARP---I called it the Congressional Relief Action Program from the beginning. I could say more, but have to go catch a plane!"

I recall Huckabee's words being that he represents the interest of, "Main Street, not just Wall Street". It appears that Armey conveniently forgot to include the word, "just", when quoting Huckabee.

Call and tell Iowa State Representatives to vote yes on Rule 60 to allow Iowans the right to decide the true definiton of marriage.
Rule 60 forces the bill out of committee and up for a vote by all representatives.

Also, for those of you who do not live in Iowa, it won't hurt for you to call or pass on an e-mail letting them know that because Iowa has no residency requirements for marriage and can bring Same-Sex marriage to your door step in your state, that you would appreciate giving Iowan's a chance to vote on this issue!

UPDATE: The following is an update from Huck's Army soldier, janelles, from Iowa.

I have just returned from Des Moines where I attended a grassroots breakfast meeting with the Westside Conservative Club.

The keynote speaker was former Gov. Terry Branstad. Another speaker was Rep. Linda Upmeyer.

My take away that I share with Hucksarmy: our phone calls and e-mails are working. "Public pressure has had an impact." Gov. Branstad

They urged us to continue the pressure - especially with the Democrats that could be open to supporting a marriage amendment.

I then made a stop at the Iowa State House where numerous citizens- old, young, children were attempting to personally persuade House and Senate members to let the people speak on the gay marriage in Iowa issue. What a sight!

Iowa has many issues- gay rights and increasing the taxes we pay are on the front burner. I have come home energized that our voices are making a difference.

Thanks to each one of you who have made even one call or sent one e-mail- or have done even more.

I plan to be back in D.M. for the April 15 Tea Party...
